We’ve been vending at Phoenix Comicon every year since 2011, and each year, we bring a new, exclusive piece of artwork to the show. The first piece I did featured a phoenix and a dragon, and I decided to revisit the idea with my piece for PHXCC 2015.
One of our dragons has taken it upon himself to head out along the highway and make sure people know the way to the show! This is our exclusive print for Tucson Comic Con 2014, featuring a big ol’ green dragon gripping a hammer with his tail and looking smug about his addition to the I-10 road sign. The view of Picacho Peak will look quite familiar to those who make the trip from the Phoenix area down to Tucson!
This will be a limited run of 25 prints at 11″ x 17″ for $20. Each one is signed and hand-numbered by myself. They’ll only be available at the show, November 8th and 9th, so make sure to grab yourself a copy!
MaricopaCon 2014 is coming up soon, the first weekend in August. I’m doing a very short-run exclusive just for this show. MaricopaCon is specifically a gaming convention, so while my exclusives usually include a dragon, this one needed to be special. So a bunch of fantasy beasties got together for a rowdy game of “Bards Against Nonhumanity”!
Only 15 copies of this print, signed and hand-numbered, will ever be available. The prints are 11″ x 17″ and will be available at the show for $20 each.
This lovely spiky fellow is our convention exclusive for Phoenix Comicon 2014. It’s been a long time since I drew a proper fire-breather, and figured it was about time I did!
These prints will be done as a limited run of 85 copies, 11″ x 17″, each one signed and hand-numbered.
As always, if you have a chance to come to PHXCC this year, it’s a great show and we absolutely love it. Come find Red Nebula Studios at booth #697!
One day in early November, 2013, a mysterious blue box appeared in the desert just outside of Tucson, Arizona. It had the look of an old-fashioned British police box, and out of it, stepped a man… or at least, I think he was a man. He talked in a very strange way, but seemed to guess that something was going on. Everyone else had scoffed when we said something was… odd about the cacti in the area, but he just smiled and said, “Allons-y!”
I’m very pleased to announce this! I was approached by the AZ TARDIS Southern Chapter to do a piece of artwork for a Tucson Comic Con 2013 exclusive. This is a limited edition 11″ x 17″ print, and only 51 copies, signed and hand-numbered by myself, will ever be sold. They are $20 each, and 50% of each sale goes directly to the charities the AZ TARDIS group works with, benefiting children’s diabetes research and lymphoma cancer research.
This print will be available both at the Red Nebula Studios table and at the AZ TARDIS table. We hope to see you there!
This illustration was done as a gift for two friends we’ve known from the local convention circuit for quite a while, who announced that they’ve gotten engaged! I was secretly approached by one to do a picture for them, and while it should include a dragon, an image of her green garnet engagement ring, a ladybug, and a shamrock, all other details were left up to me. In fact, even she didn’t know what it looked like until I met with them to present it!
Nearly everything in the image is symbolic in some way, from the dragon coiling into a distinctive infinity symbol, the arrangement of the ring, ladybug, and clover, the vines entwining it all together… I really love how this one turned out – and I’m happy to say, so did they!
This is my contribution to the 2015 calendar for the Kids Need to Read charity, now updated with the final, digitally colored version. This calendar will be available starting in June of 2014, both at Phoenix Comicon and via their online store.
This digital painting was done for a friend. At first glance, you may notice the serene blue ocean waves, the faint morning mist and lush greenery covering the shoreside cliffs, the soft pastel clouds, with those at higher altitudes shining with daybreak’s first light, or the birds gently coasting on the breeze.
Hidden amongst the obvious are a few little secrets, creatures and spirits from Irish mythology. If you look closely, you may spot a pooka, a faery ring, a woodland spirit, the children of Lir, a selkie, and a creature whose cry is thought to have sparked some stories of the banshee.
Mythology is fascinating, and it’s especially fun to look beyond the more commonly known Greek stories. There are thousands of fascinating legends from cultures the world over, and discovering them is half the fun!
If you live in the American southwest, you’re probably used to seeing all kinds of reptiles sunning themselves on fences. Just don’t startle the big ones – they’ve been known to cause property damage, if only accidentally! Come to think of it, I’d better check and make sure our insurance covers acts of big, lazy fence dragons…
In any case, this is our official exclusive for Phoenix Comicon 2013, which is coming up Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd – 26th. This year, they introduced guidelines for exclusives, so the quality (and rarity) of official exclusives will be even better this year than it has been in the past. We just got the prints done, a limited run of 100 copies, 11″ x 17″, each one signed and hand-numbered. If you happen to be at the show, drop by booth #697 to pick one up!
If you have a chance to get to Phoenix Comicon, I definitely recommend it! It is an amazing show, attracting some really great guests (they’re having an all-out Babylon 5-a-thon this year), and we’re ridiculously excited about it.
