Popcorn is an undead horse belonging to the main character from the webcomic Zombie Ranch. This is a combination birthday and Christmas present for the lovely Dawn, the comic’s artist, and a Christmas present for Clint, the writer. I was rather startled to see they hadn’t gotten fanart of Popcorn yet! He’s so darned cool looking.

Industrial cityscape backgrounds are kinda scary. Kinda fun… but scary.
The character is Ghost, a turian belonging to DasTierLockjaw, and she’s hanging out somewhere in that gritty neon hell known as Omega. I have a bit of a soft spot for the place, I’ll admit, primarily because it’s where you pick up two of the coolest characters in ME2. 😀
This was meant to be a speedpainting, but wasn’t quite as speedy as I would’ve liked. About 8 hours in total.
I had more fun working on this than any one artist should be allowed in a lifetime. I got to draw Serenity (squee!) and Kaylee (squeee!), try out some new techniques, and learn just what an interesting challenge it is trying to portray an actual person using lineart. A couple of textures came from cgtextures.com (one of the top 20 websites on the Internet, in my opinion), and the excellent planet tutorial I made use of belongs to Dinyctis on deviantArt and can be found here.
This was one of my two entries for the badge art competition for Phoenix Comicon 2012. I went outside of a lot of comfort zones here, using a lot of vivid colors, stylization, and simplification to make what I feel is quite a successful design overall. I didn’t win the badge art competition, but growing as an artist is never a loss!
I did this one because two of the guests at the 2012 show were Peter Mayhew (who played Chewbacca in “Star Wars”), and Ed Asner (who voiced Carl in Pixar’s “Up”). By combining the two, I came up with this rather silly image. 🙂
Meet the spiny desert drake, the aptly named dragon native to the Arizona desert. This continues my trend of creating draconic species indigenous to the location of the convention where their print is being sold as an exclusive.
This beautiful fellow was sold only at Phoenix Comicon 2012. We had 100 11″ x 17″ copies, all signed and hand-numbered, and we sold every last one! It was great – he was very well received.
He’s patterned after a number of local desert dwellers. His spiky scales are reminiscent of horned toads, his patterning like that of many of our lizards and snakes. He perches lightly atop a saguaro cactus arm, like many hawks here do while hunting. He has the mischievous fearlessness of a coyote, and the curiosity and territorial instincts of a cactus wren.
This tiny green drakeling is wonderfully camouflaged for skittering among the branches of orange trees and sipping on the sweet juice of the fruits.
This image was done as our exclusive for WonderCon 2012, in a series that included 50 signed and hand-numbered 11″ x 17″ prints. The idea was to feature in each exclusive a dragon indiginous to the area where the convention was being held. In this case, WonderCon took place in Anaheim, CA – currently home to a rather famous theme park. As you may or may not know, the whole area used to be covered in orange orchards – thus this little drakeling’s home. Not to worry, though… as the orange groves were cleared out, most of them moved on – but I hear a few of them still hang around to help clean up after tourists.
This strange and beautiful creature was done for MaryBunnie‘s contest on deviantArt. This is my take on her representation of Mother Nature, a creature which often has a form somewhere between dragon and rabbit, yet ever-changing like the Earth itself. I found this concept to be very intriguing, and this was the interpretation that sprung from my strange little brain.
This was the first time we ever did an exclusive for a convention, for Phoenix Comicon 2011. The prints were 11″ x 17″ and turned out beautifully! We made exactly 100 copies, all signed and hand-numbered. They were quite successful at the show!
The duality depicted by a phoenix and a dragon is most often seen in Asian artwork – the yin and yang, masculinity and femininity, light and dark. I really love the concept, but wanted to put my own spin on the art and use a western-style dragon and my own style of phoenix. The slightly muted color scheme gives it a slightly more antique feel, as well.
This is a pattern of dragons created as a tessellation. A tessellation is a pattern repeated in such a way that there’s no space left in-between. Think M.C. Escher with his fish, birds, lizards, and such…
Dragons, though? Well, I do like a challenge!

Keesa is a creature known as a riftwalker dragon, a strange, jet-black beast whose eyes, mouth, and even blood glow with an otherworldly, pale purple energy. Contrasting their fearsome appearance, their scales are so fine as to feel velvety, and their wings catch the light in iridescent hues.
Riftwalkers are often mistrusted by the other dragons of Eldlor and feared by many of the other races for their unnatural appearance and dark history. They are now so rare as to be thought extinct by most.
