Dragon Hatchling Sculpture - Turquoise and Green

A light blue baby dragon sculpted from polymer clay, hatching from a blue-green colored egg made from a hollowed-out gourd, sitting on a bed of rocks and moss, on a wooden base.

This is the first hatchling I made using colored clays, which has the advantage of being a lot simpler than painting the entire dragon, which can come out looking uneven without quite a bit of work. I did still do a wash of acrylic paints to bring out the scales and to tint the dorsal scales light blue rather than white. I also used tiny glass marbles for the eyes, and sculpted fin-like ears for this one. A little sea dragon, perhaps?

This little dragon was adopted for Christmas of 2013!
