Website Update

Sarrah Wilkinson - 2/1/2021

Gee, Sarrah, what are we going to do tonight?

The same thing we do... well, once every couple of years, I suppose. Redo the website!

I really, really wanted to get away from WordPress. Having to constantly check over (and often fix) the site every time a new update came out and worry about whether the add-ons would still work was getting quite annoying. If anyone's going to break the website, it had better be me!

I love coding, so jumping back into HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript is just my idea of a good time. At the same time, I've been doing a bunch of work in the Unity game engine, which uses C# - jumping back and forth between three programming languages is definitely a good exercise for the rusty grey matter I've got squelching around between my ears!

Speaking of games, that's one of the biggest new additions to the site. There's now a gaming section! For the moment, there's a bunch of little blogs about the game my husband and I are currently working on, My Alien Farmstead. You can also take a look at the handful of smaller games we've got up over on Itch.io, all of which are either free or pay-what-you-want (which is also free if you prefer!) One of them, Just A Circus, is playable right in your browser (on a PC, anyway!) and we did it in one week for a game jam. That one's my favorite so far, and it's got some fun surprises! Can you solve it? There IS an ending, even if it might not be evident at first.

What else? Well, everything in the shop is currently pointing to Etsy again, rather than having a dedicated store on the site. I just found it to be easier that way, at least for the moment! The website will more be geared towards projects, blogs, and generally just be a good one-stop-shop for all the things we do.

Now, if you're not interested in ALL the things we do, you can visit the individual Artwork, Costuming, Gaming, or Shop sections of the site. There are even dedicated RSS feeds for each section. I can't be the only one who still likes using RSS feeds, right? ...right?

Okay, well, I think that's everything I wanted to cover at the moment. Now let's see if I can coax myself into blogging a bit more!
